The Broomfield Independent
Film Series
(Broomfield, CO. April, 2009)
The Broomfield Independent Film Series kicks off its Spring 2009 season
with “Life and Film" on Tuesday April 21 at the Broomfield
Mamie Doud Eisenhower Library. The showcase features independently produced
short films by Award winning filmmaker team and community organizers
Army Armstrong and Cec Girz. Tails From the Land, Bears Everywhere, Coors
Classic, Sowing Seeds of Sustainability, will be some of the films shown.
The films will be presented in the Library's Eisenhower Room.
at 3 Community Park Road in Broomfield. Doors open at 6:00, and
the films start at 6:30. The filmmakers will be present to discuss
their films and answer questions from the audience. Admission
is free.
The Broomfield Independent Film Series is a non-profit arts
project of the Broomfield Council on the Arts and Humanities
that encourages the understanding, production, and appreciation
of independent films. The program offers an opportunity for local
filmmakers from throughout Colorado to screen their works and
discuss the filmmaking process with the Broomfield community.
The film presentation is free to the public and provides a source
of high-quality entertainment missing in the Broomfield community
today—independent film screenings. At the same time, by
fostering public interest, the series hopes to motivate more
local artists, especially youth, minorities, and seniors, to
explore the film arts. Each presentation includes a question-and-answer
session with filmmakers, film technicians, and educators, enabling
members of the community to learn more about the subject matter
and how films are made.
The Broomfield Independent Film Series brings together diverse
groups, speakers, and films that appeal to different ethnic and
demographic community groups. The annual program stresses the
educational aspects of film and video production and includes
a program targeted at teens.

Independent films and videos are produced and financed outside
the traditional Hollywood system, such as those shown at Sundance,
Telluride, and other film festivals. The Broomfield Independent
Film Series is the only venue in Broomfield offering this type
of film, which typically recruits local talent, focuses on more
personal storylines, and features local settings.
Howard Zaremba, Broomfield resident and executive
director of the Broomfield Independent Film Series, commented, “The
Broomfield Independent Film Series is the only Broomfield-based
film arts project and the first outlet to focus specifically
on independent films. We showcase short-form narrative, animation
and documentary productions and invite filmmakers to discuss
their work and interact with the audience. We support the community
and offer a small honorarium to selected organizations. We want
to encourage more interest in local talent and independently
produced films throughout the Denver metro area.”
By not charging an admission fee, the film series is accessible
to those who might not be familiar with locally produced film
and video programs. The Broomfield Independent Film Series is
funded by the Broomfield Council on the Arts & Humanities;
the Broomfield Community Foundation; the Scientific and Cultural
Facilities District; and the City and County of Broomfield Arts,
Culture, and Science Funding Program.
BIFS also works closely with other arts and science organizations
including Boulder Valley Media Allaince, Boulder Valley School
District, Native American Relief Fund, The Camino Arriba Foundation,
Boulder International Film Festival and other progressive organizations.
